But the laissez-faire Anglo-Saxon model has also now failed miserably.
--------------
Except that the flaw is that there was laissez-faire. There was socialism and nationalisation of the failures, instead of letting the failures go to the wall.
One point that I read about last night on inequality hasn't been mention. Fecundity.
In the past, particularly in the UK, the rich had more children than the poor. That meant that inheritances were split. The poor still left money, but it was split between fewer people. Now that has reversed. Maybe the rich need to be encouraged to breed, and the poor encouraged not to breed and to save.
--------------
Even an alternative “Asian” growth model – if there really is one – has not prevented a rise in inequality in China, India, and elsewhere.
-------------
So what? The poor in China are far better off. They don't care about 'inequality'. They care about their absolute standard of living.
So if we get more equality, are you prepared to have your wages cut in half, but food etc still cost the same? Will that make you feel better?
If so, donate another 50% of your wages to the poor. You can get that experience now.
