I have a lot of sympathy for confused, elderly people taken in by these revolting frauds; but less so for people who are compos mentis and should apply a bit of common sense. I have come across investment bankers in middle age who put £50K or more into fraudulent "guaranteed bond" scams, bamboo plantations, carbon credits, and the like, and lost the lot.

However after 40 mins I still could not find the windows key - supposedly next to the CTRL key.

I kept trying to convince her that it is not there and she kept trying to convince me that I was looking in the wrong place.

Any hoo she said she would call the next day. Indeed she did and even brought her more technical line manager experts. Between the 3 of us and after another half an hour, we concluded that I don't use Windows..

The line manager did apologies and said he would tale my name of the list and went on to say that if I had told them that at first then it would not have wasted their time. To which I responded by saying that none of this would have happened if they had not called me.

As I can recall .... expletives we being poured down the line. Now given the toxic and unhealthy nature, along with the associated side effects of said expletives, I calmly told the callers to relaxe and that I would hold on to ensure that they were safe... just in case I needed to call an ambulance for them. However they were determined to get me off the line - so I told them that now they had my number and given covid-19 had me working from home, they could call anytime for a chat.

In 99.9 % of cases , it`s quite simple - cold call = scam . Sadly , their will always be people who ignore all the red flags and warning signs . It`s a bit like Darwinism or natural selection , predators and prey .

Having had none for a few weeks I've had 4 calls today from "BT openreach" - you'd think that once someone hangs up on them they'd move on ... I'm afraid I don't have the patience to string them along but I applaud those who do.

I put the nice Indian man on hold and noisily clumped downstairs (no carpet), and
then back up again and told him I had collected the (double glazed) "window key" from its location on
a pin next to the leccy meter and asked him what he wanted me to do with it .
