Private pensions are a scam, in a civilised society the Providers would be classed as criminals but they have the government's blessing. Over 27 years I have contributed ~£140,000 to an Allied Dunbar/Zurich pension plan. My pension pot is now ~£100,000, that's an average return of -3.8% per annum cumulative, yes that's a minus sign. Please don't give your money to these vultures.

I'm not sure calling it a scam is really fair unless you were forced into taking it out, didn't get any choice as to where to invest, any opportunity to monitor how it was doing or have the option of moving the funds elsewhere at anypoint during those 27 years.

The problem I suspect is like most people the expectation is/was that someone had your best interest at heart and they were working night and day to deliver the best outcome they possibly could. As we all now know (but I suspect always secretly knew) this is utter rubbish.

I'd be interested to know what you were invested in as I was until recently with Eagle Star/Zurich which haven't performed too badly.
