Taking a slightly different approach to one's wealth, many years ago there was a Greek family who we use to visit on holiday, who became the best of friends. One evening while out with them the woman said to me, you know you are a very rich person, you are married to a beautiful woman, you have been blessed with lovely children and you all have your health, that makes you very Rich. Somethings you cannot buy no matter how much money you possess.

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

I occasionally ask myself the same question but instead of a large autombille I substitue bicycles.
The answer which presents itserl to me is ability, intelligence, resilience, ambition, good social skills, charm, good parents and a dollop of luck.
But not necessarily in that order.
Also an Economics degree from a good university.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself.
Recently I was diagnosed with slightly high blood pressure and pre-pre diabetes. They put me on a Microsoft teams group.
No less than 2 attractive young female health professionals contact me and ask me questions such as how much do your drink? (less than half of the average medical student), and what's your sexual orientation (straight ).
I adore the NHS.

A young blonde pop singer?
A half of lager?
The offer of a night out on the town in Doncaster?

Gad, Sir, makes you proud to be British.

It’s much worse than that.

She sat at the bar, I sidled up “can I buy you a drink?”
“Yeah, a beer please”
“Half a lager mate”
“Well what you doing here?”
“Onstage in five minutes, bye”

Way out of my league, what a looker.

Fascinating (albeit unsurprising, but it's nice to see some numbers) piece in NS on Brits' perception of what "average income" is and where they are in relation to it:
https://www.newstatesman...nt-brits-average-income
(or https://archive.ph/iQfBu )

(Related: another recent poll on income and class at https://www.newstatesman...lass-say-british-public or https://archive.ph/oz16G - and the video at https://youtu.be/9hypz952kRk - is quite fun too).
