It was an existing Nationwide maturing 12 month CASH ISA. which I reinvested. The rates were for fixed term CASH ISA's as per Nigel G's post above. I just chose the 12 month option again.

I looked at the Nationwide 1-year Fixed Rate Bond the other day but for me it is not the time to put my money into a Fixed Rate Bond because I think the rates are still going up.
If you are interested their internet-based Bond pays 4%, they have a branch-based Bond but that pays a lower rate.
You can have 2 joint account holders, registered for Nationwide Internet banking. This is a non-ISA account.

Yorks BS have a regular saver (up to £500/month) paying a variable rate currently at 5%. Is effectively instant access as can close early with no penalty. (putting 2 x £500 / month into this)

They also have a 2.5%, 6 accesses per annum account.

Both require applicant to have been a customer for > 1year

There is a 2.5% for non-members effectively limited to £5K

Still rubbish returns but at least positive.

Useful whilst waiting for the next two Bank of England Rate decisions. Moved monies there for now.

Opened and funded this account today, took less than 5 mins, but I do have other accounts with Santander. If you don't then I think you have to jump through the two forms of ID hoops etc.

This account is only available until Nov 1st or until it is sold out if sooner, looking at how many people are interested in if over on the MSE forums I would not be surprised if it sells out before the first of Nov.

I opened a 3.75 1 year fix last week - automatically upgraded to a 4.35 fix now as the rates on that product have changed within the 14 day cooling-off period. I expect we'll see 5+ fixes within a few weeks.

5% risk free?

Once our pension contributions are covered, I'll take this as a reasonable home for spare cash as a relatively short-term measure. We don't need any more equity risk.

Open a Barclays account, 2 x DDs and you can get a 5% account for up to £5k

Works for me
