Hi

Looking to start a regular monthly contribution to global small cap index fund in my SIPP

AJBELL have three class of the Vanguard Global Small Cap Index fund.

Vanguard Glb Small-Cp Idx £ Acc - FUND:B3X1NT0
Vanguard Glb Small-Cp Idx £ Dist - FUND:B3X1LS5
Vanguard Glb Small-Cp Idx Ins Pl £ Acc - FUND:BPT2BD1

The top two have an ongoing charge of 0.29% and the bottom one ongoing charge of 0.24%. Judging by the abbreviation in the fund title, the third seems to be an institutional class. I'm not sure what the Pl stands for.

Phoned up AJBELL and they said you can invest in the Institutional class.

Just wondering if anyone has invested in this class? The only issue i can see is if i ever wanted to transfer my SIPP to another platform like Interactive Investor, for exmaple, they do not seem to support this particular class. Can anyone see any other issues? Is there any other better choice of fund/tracker that follow small cap world indexes?

I don't know about your other questions, but I only know of two trackers that follow a small cap world index. The Vanguard fund and an iShares ETF which has ongoing charges of 0.35%. However, according to Trustnet, the iShares ETF has performed ever so marginally better over 3/5 years against the standard class (8.5 vs 7.8 over 3 years; 49.1 vs 48.4 over 5) and the institutional class (8.5 vs 8.0 over 3 years; 49.1 vs 48.9 over 5).

With AJBell of course you will have to weigh the higher dealing charges for ETFs against the capped platform charge.

(Also Ins Pl looks to be Institutional Plus, according to the full name in Trustnet)
