Dear Beavis and Butt-Head

On page 7 of this thread Big Boy posted something that I wished to reply to and I did so this morning

It's how forums work (usually)

And maybe learn how to post a chart or something

Might break up the monotony

Yeah I see it now and missed it earlier. The charts do open up with the details. There'd be too many.

I suspect you know more about the art of investment compared with when you started. Clearly you do hence your page on the forum.

Life doesn’t depend on one word but hopefully this reply is helpful.

Thank you for the reply, I'm going to conclude that in your mind you have an edge as a private investor with your FIFO strategy. My simple contention is that you can't know this if you don't calculate your performance and compare it to a global equity tracker.

Don't take it to heart - no-one on these forums has ever evidenced an edge. I'm not saying no-one has one, I'm saying it hasn't been evidenced. I think it's an important point to make to those that have a tendency to follow the call of the piper.

Yes, I'm learning a lot from my investment journey thank you. Mostly around financial planning, setting objectives and monitoring my progress. That may well be my forte - win by not losing.

I had a go with a portfolio of individual stocks with 10% of my investment pot and documented this on the HT thread. It's beaten VWRL since launch but I have no edge and so I am gradually winding that experiment down by selling the stocks at opportune moments. I will keep some.

Wave Action - please try and summarise your results and compare to an appropriate benchmark. A selection of charts would be better than links to things which tell us nothing. I'm happy to help, it's nice to see someone having a go.

Embrace the challenge. I'm coming up to 10 years on this forum and I reckon there will have been posts from over 1,000 people in that time. Not one poster has ever evidenced an edge, go for it !!!

Why not have trades relative to your plan especially the
years when trackers fall ?
If u fail to plan u plan to fail.

The price of ISF.L stood at 753.1 at the end of the year. I've bought in cheaper at 724.45 and sold at 744.68. I'm up 2.8% . FTSE is down around 1.5% this year so far. ISF.L is the FTSE tracker so the figures will be the same. Give me a bit time and I'll sort it out. I've tried hard in my short period on the forum . Again the links I've posted are the same as the chart below. I was concerned about copyright .

DATE ......... BUY / SELL... TOTAL
1 JAN................... 753.1
17 JAN........ BUY 724.45 ....100
29 JAN........SELL 744.68.....102.8

The big problem for me is, which indicator do u follow.
If traded the slow stoch when the FTSE was rising on the chart
u missed the trade and incurred a lot of dealing charges.

Good work WA, looks much better to see a chart, you'll get more interest

If it would help, I would be happy to benchmark your project against Vanguard FTSE All-World ETF (VWRL)

I wouldn't be motivated to help with benchmarking against anything other than a global tracker because this is what you should be investing any spare money into at your age (in my view)

All I need to know is when you started the project described on this thread and the capital amount. If there have been any additions I need to know amounts and dates please.

All trades to be posted within 1 hour of execution !!!

No worries if you don't fancy it

Very true, nothings perfect , and I'm using a combination of the 10 MA and lower momentum indicators. I've maintained all of this from the start. Sideways, whipsaw, etc . I'm trading short term ,weeks or month, so there's always an opportunity. Remember when you said BUY late last year. I told you I'm waiting until the move was complete and indictors were low again. That's the way I use TA. Only a guide as I've always said. Again to be honest I sold at 7.35p in November so missed the next 20p or 3%. I've bought back lower. Call that luck but it's a fact . Moves can go on a long time even in the daily time frame . I've learnt they rarely go too far away so in this case it was 3%. That rally from October was a huge rally in general and they can be severe. Again I'll repeat that chart I've used was the only one I could find holding the details in the web address. Trouble is the Stochastic is fast and not slow but it gives the general picture. There's the whipsaw explained. Candlesticks also cause an issue . It ain't going to be perfect but I've got a guide to help me.

If u are printing a profit, u are doing better than most but
nothing but nothing indicates the future.
The DOW didn't rise because the MACD crossed
but the MACD crossed because the DOW rose.

Why don't u set up a virtual portfolio with a figure u are
comfortable with and then u
could update any trades
and the total of your portfolio.
It would be easier if u included transactions cost in your
buy and sell profits/losses.
If not u could u join my £5 a day challenge and that
would double the numbers.
