The model on which the business was built is now redundant. Needs fresh ideas to move forward.

Good long FT piece earlier this year on how HL - once the disruptor of the old "IFA model" - is now under siege from cheaper and more technologically sophisticated competitors. Lots of interesting numbers on demographics and (lack of) new client acquisition.

That's the nature of business. Who talks about IBM, Polaroid, Xerox or Kodak any longer.........

Or the long list of UK building societies that demutualised only to ultimately fail.

I’m not invested in HL, never was, it was always on my watchlist though - in fact I only deleted it today. So just one final, stupid question, just out of interest. With an accepted cash offer of 1140p, which I think includes a “final dividend” of 30p (?) … is anyone buying at 1102 to capture a 3.6% gain ?

Oh dear. I'm not invested, but as a client I can only hope that things don't deteriorate from here, either due to lack of investment or misguided 'improvements'.

Sad too that this seems to be the new trajectory for many UK companies. Start off as a brilliant company / disruptor, become listed, attract capital, grow. Then, instead of continuing to enjoy lengthening P/E ratios, the sp languishes (this being the FTSE), and the company ends up de-listed. Not great for the company IMO, and not great for UK investors, fishing in a shrinking pool, their future returns prematurely curtailed. Reminds me of Blue Prism among others.

NO, it's not worth the hassle.

Any idea if the unlisted HL rollover share can be held within HL GIA?

Thinking out of the box.You could benefit by buying Finsbury Growth and Income Trust, they are on a 8.26% discount and the trust has a 3.8% holding in HL Maybe a bit more profitable in the long run rather than taking advantage of the difference between the offer and quoted share price.

Previous de-listed share problems have come from the fact that HMRC rules forbid unlisted shares in ISAs, so the providers, including HL, forced exits. In this example my shares are in a GIA. It would be ironic if HL prevented me from holding unlisted HL shares in my HL GIA, but another provider did allow it, as that might be a gateway for me to transfer my seven figure's worth of assets out of HL to that other provider. I'm annoyed with the Board for rolling over at this price (and not because I am underwater with the investment), and i think there is merit in holding the unlisted vehicle, but my toys might really fly out of the pram if they make holding shares in the unlisted difficult.
