I use HSBC Settle North Yorkshire have very good personal service - doubt whether Coutts would be any better! I live some 130 miles away, I use local HSBC for paying in/ cash withdrawals.

Anonymous 1 needed this 'Off the Record'

Foggle, thanks for that. Very sorry to hear that.

TSB told me today I would be better paying some cheques into a deposit as it would be over the £7k limit and get no interest, they could pay direct into the Savings account at 2.5%. That only lasts till mid May, but I can open another the next day to get the 12m bonus. I thought I would have to open it in spouse's name. Online banking good.

They can also send a weekly text balance and over / under a set limit. Been VERY pleased with Lloyds recently as a Bank.

I wouldn't reccommend Nat West, they were a good bank once upon a time until RBS got hold of them. The latest is when I rang the telephone banking system this morning only to be asked for my customer number. Had never heard of a customer number. Eventually managed to get past the computer messages and spoke to a real person who announced that they had started a new system but were having a few problems. Yes, like not telling their customers and not issuing them with their new customer numbers.

Just makes their tv advert even more farcical.

Banked with Halifax for years - very good and also good on internet and can pop into branches. Pays £5 per month on current account. You have to transfer 1000 per month in and then I just transfer 1000 out and that it is.

When all the UK retail banks are experiencing deserved increases in the volume of complaints (I have some inside experience of this on a global basis), it's surprising to see so many of them receiving glowing references. It just proves the point that they are largely all the same; many customers experience poor service from their bank, and many are very happy with that same bank.

Santander comes in for much criticism. It's still Abbey in disguise and suffers from the same poor service ethic, despite its customer service charter (seems they all have one these days!).

First Direct has received top marks for many years ...so why isn't everyone with them? ...and why is that not reflected at HSBC?

If you live South of the Border, don't bother with RBSG, because you will soon be with Santander ...no choice! I have been with RBSG for 10 years, and they've been pretty good, albeit they lack branches in London. I am extremely unhappy with this development and will not be moving to Santander. So, I guess I'm asking the same question. Which bank do I move to now?

Marie...Wouldn't you be better off opening an account that doesn't charge? Seems like you're paying £5 per month for absolutely nothing!
