More accurately, it was mis-management of the economy by whoever was actually making decisions in the name of a senile old man. Realising they'd been had for 4 years probably prompted quite a few voters to hold their noses and vote for Donald.

Average maturity length of US Treasuries is just 72 months. Janet Yellen was funding Biden's spending spree by issuing short term debt. There was little appetite for long dated issuance. Trump's madness is in a sense logical. This a can which cannot be passed onto the next generation.
