40+mins with Terry.

In this interview, Smith tells Mary McDougall how he analyses and selects companies, how the rise of software has folded into his investment thinking and what trends he thinks currently look most promising.

He also talks about the extent to which fund size is a challenge going forward, and what spurred him to buy Amazon (US:AMZN) this summer.

Interested to know if the forum detectives have a view on what has happened to this mysterious 2nd new holding.

At the end of October, along with Amazon Fundsmith said they'd started buying another new position, which was showing as undisclosed at 0.4%.

At the end of November the undisclosed new position is showing at 0.1%.

Am I being stupid in thinking this either means the new position dropped in share price by 75% hence going from 0.4 to 0.1 (highly unlikely) OR Terry Smith changed his mind and has already started selling the new position (again seems highly unlikely)?

Is it just me that thought he didn't sound convinced himself that fund size isn't a problem?

Interesting listening to the discussion regarding Amazon. Thanks.

I noticed this too. Perhaps the mystery stock's share price increased too quickly before Terry could build a meaningful stake and so he's selling out already. Intriguing.

Your right check out what he says from about 22:30 or so for a couple of minutes, he admits that fund size is a handicap and that they can no longer invest in some of the companies they once could.

What a nice problem for him to have.

The right marketing approach would be to put up the charges. That would stop the fund growing too big.

Do you want to give BD a heart attack, he already has sleepless nights about the amount we pay TS for making that 18% for us (annualized).
