Scammers are cold-calling people asking for their bank details to receive the government's £150 energy rebate.Your local council will automatically rebate you the money without having to claim.
Warn your parents or any old people to be aware and put the phone down if contacted.
While on the subject has anyone yet received their rebate?
I don't know anyone who has yet.

I would imagine that it will be applied at the same time as the first monthly direct debit payment. Mine is due next week so will see what happens.

For some reason I never seem to get any scam calls or texts. It could be because my internet media profile is non-existent (never signed up to Facebook, Twitter and the rest of them) and my landline has no phone, being only used as a broadband connection.

Same here. After getting covid I started getting calls from an unknown number, my wife suggested googling the number and it turned out to be NHS test & trace! I think some people are just susceptible to these contacts, too trusting and too nice, not like me!

Uh, you know caller ID can be faked, right? Would not surprise me if scammers used "you can check the number I'm calling from and see I'm from the NHS" same as they do with convincing people they're from banks.

I'm coming to the view that telephones are more trouble than they are worth.

I used to get several scam calls a day , trying to sell me kitchens, investments etc.
Since I got rid of the landline , haven't had one ...plus I've saved a small fortune not paying BY every month.

So how do you get your internet connection?

We get very few scam calls, I could probably count them on one hand every year.

For a long time, we've been very careful who we give our numbers to and if a company insists on a tel number when they don't actually need it, they get a false number.

Would still love to get rid of the landline though, we have it only because we can't get an internet connection without it. (living in the sticks we don't have cable). We have a phone connected to the landline which takes messages but we couldn't answer if we wanted to because the handset is faulty!
