I've started to use the Trustnet portfolio after many years of using my own Excel set up.

I'm pleased with the Trustnet portfolio program but despite googling cannot find out if dividends are automatically added to the value of a holding?
Can anyone help please?

They are not. You can test this by adding some low growth high yield holding and you'll see the divis are ignored. You need to put 'em in yourself.

Although it's worth noting that if you go on the analysis tab you can flip the chart from "without reinvestment" to "with reinvestment", which will at least show what you'd have if each holding reinvested in itself.

Strange as it says.

"All prices in Pence Sterling (GBX) unless otherwise specified. Price total return performance figures are calculated on a bid price to bid price basis (mid to mid for OEICs) with net income (dividends) reinvested. Performance figures are shown in Sterling unless otherwise specified."

So are the calculations wrong or does it just not track dividend payments?

I just tend to change the chart to "With reinvestment" too.

They are shown assuming dividends reinvested.

A couple of examples you can try - add in the two variants of the same fund, both acc and inc, and you should get almost the same figures.

Take a trust which pays a decent dividend e.g HICL. Look at the 5 year figure from Trustnet, which is about 34% and then compare to the stock price return of only 5%

Despite the small print on the Portfolio Valuation page, the way it actually works (at least for me) is to show the value and increase/decrease of current holdings based on the shares or units that have actually been purchased initially and subsequently. It does not assume reinvestment and under the Cash section I keep a note of my cash in broker accounts. I prefer it this way as I do not automatically reinvest any dividends.

The Analyse Asset Allocation tab does, however, give you total return numbers overall and by individual holding.

A weakness of the system is that at least for me the Asset Class numbers seem to be inaccurate and incomplete, but I can get those from Morningstar on my ii accounts. Another issue is that the system only gives you a snapshot of current holdings, but that is in line with most broker accounts.
