Now if DEC are right and their methane emissions are under control, which can only
be permanently controlled by cementing in the wells and there's aren't, it's a positive.
If on the other hand they are not, it's a negative.
what me worry?

Anyone concerned about the methane sniffer satellite just launched ?
I am glad someone posted this. The satellite is supposed to be there to identify leaks and possibly be used to help DEC instead of being a stick and increasing costs.

I think I'm correct in saying that it was an English universtity that spotted the worlds largest methane leak recently. It was whilst working on a methane leakage project they were carrying out using an existing satellite The leak was spotted was in one of the stans ( ie a region of a country ending with that) and nobody knew it was there including the company that was responsible for the pipeline. Apparently the leak was responsible for more emissions than 750000cars travelling around the world for a year. And noone knows how long its been going on for.

Found it!!

The Guardian: US oil and natural gas wells, pipelines and compressors are spewing three times the amount of the potent heat-trapping gas methane as the government has determined, causing $9.3bn in yearly climate damage, a new comprehensive study calculates.

This article might be of interest from todays paper.

I would rather go with Mystic Meg than that guy

Along with other buffoons I trade on the basis of MAs etc but it has absolutely nothing to do with the stock being traded. All you are really doing is looking at the behaviour of other punters and trying to position yourself to profit from their actions.

Final results will be announced on Tuesday. I assume the low gas prices over the last few months will result in inflated profit figures due to the slightly irrational way the hedging has to be covered in the accounts. I wonder if there will be any further updates on “other business” such as the US congress “investigations” / methane emissions management, BBs, hedging beyond FY25 and so on …? I’m assuming not.

Always an interesting day though 💰

Truly never a dull moment here !!

Predictably the dividend has been reduced (kind of) in line with the SP but is now sustainable for three whole years. I assume the market will have a squitsy bum explosion this morning as uk share prices don’t seem to do “relief as that seems like a sensible capital allocation model” !!

Really interesting is the new acquisition announced today which they say will alleviate the wind down of current wells?

Behind this are some big revenue and profit numbers resulting from the hedging. This has been a massive drag on reported numbers, but with record production in a low gas price environment, quite the opposite is true this year.

Finally the new capital allocation model (aka lower dividend!) allows for big strides towards debt reduction (as well as accretive acquisitions like the one announced today).

I’ve probably missed lots out, but it’s still early ☕️ and I’m not an accountant.

I missed out the promise of more BBs and the complete abandonment of the tender thingy that confused everybody.

The dividend cut is something like 60 or 70%. Probably the biggest headline will be “dividend slashed” !! So guessing yield at yesterday’s SP nearer 8% or something???

The Red Queen Effect.

Corporate decline rate of ~10% calculated as the change in production from Q4 2022 to Q4 2023; excluding any intraperiod acquisitions or divestitures. Q4 2022 reported production of ~134 Mboepd vs. Adjusted Q4 2023 production of ~122 Mboepd (reported Q4 2023 production of 129.5 Mboepd less ~10 Mboepd of production for Tanos acquisition & adding ~3 Mboepd of non-op production divested)

Down 8% now.
Long term holders have had severe kicking will they sell? .
Will there be sufficient buyers in the short term to keep the price from falling a lot more.
New buyers get a decent dividend and high probability of share price gain over at least the medium term (my opinion only). Via share buy backs, reduced debt and more acquisitions.
And throw in the short sellers, I assume it's time for them to buy and return the shares to there owners?
