Nice uplifts today

am in california currently... my trades and portfolio upthread was me 'trading on the bog' whilst family slept in hotel room at 5am! (1pm UK time)... have just rechecked and seems the close in the UK added another 0.5% and am now YTD +5.4%... hopefully my patience in holding a lot of wide discount ITs is only at the start of being rewarded!

Notice emerging markets trackers gone down this week.
The SIPP is (was) close to its EM allocation* but a little room for manoeuvre.
Placed order for sell £650 MMF from my w/place pension
£400 into its EM passive tracker
£200 into its UK passive tracker
£50 into International passive tracker.

Similar will happen in a week or so with salary contribution, but on a smaller (yes!!) scale.

*10yrs til I start spending this... will EM join the party by then.. I have EM allocated at 6% of my equities.

LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - Most regions saw equity inflows in the week to Wednesday, led by emerging markets and the U.S., Bank of America Global Research said, as investors brought forward expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts due to softer data.
There were $22.2 billion of equities inflows in the latest week, BofA said in its weekly round-up of flows in and out of world markets. Emerging markets drew $11.1 billion of inflows, the largest weekly figure since February .

Took the 33%,profit on Lloyds (in 4 months) and now thinking of switching out altogether Sold DGI9 at 16% profit over the same period, through sheer impatience. Trimmed 30% profit on MKS but hanging on to the remaining £20k. CLIG trading statement underwhelming but hanging in for the yield and in the expectation that their focus on discounted ITs will come good with clients.

Yet to decide where to reinvest the proceeds. SDV a possibility; and/ or adding to LGEN, NG and Aviva. Still with the strategy of locking in high yielders before interest rates come down and their capital valuss hopefully rise in proportion...

Any views out there on RIO?

Good to see some sensible profit taking - though I suspect that you will have left something in them for your counterparties. We too have trimmed both MKS and LLOY in recent weeks and they are both closer to further haircuts than they are to top ups. We intend to continue to hold both in a value range between £100k-£110k in our portfolios

RIO is a different ballgame altogether. The world's second biggest miner, due to produce its interims on Wednesday next with its dividend declaration for its Sep 26 payout. Our stake in the company (which has sone fairly embarrassing events in its recent and past history) is at its largest ever (4100 shares). We've added quite a few of these recently at prices under £50. As it stands now we would add more if they fell below £48, and trim profit off at over £56.

You mention NG as a potential buy. NG has recovered very dramatically from the deeply discounted rights issue announced in May. We took up our rights in full - costing over £30k - and find them up on Friday by over 51%. So we are rather overweight now in NG - which is a company I think every UK investor should have a stake in. So although we may well be trimming our stake, I won't feel bad about our counterparties' purchases. For a new investor they are, I think, still good value.

It looks like another very interesting week is on the way......

Lgen is a volatile way of underperforming the ftse100.

I have some RIO but it could drop 10 or raise 10...driven by politics and China.

Mark

LGEN is a generous provider of income for its owners.

Micawber's post shows he knows as well as I do that volatility provides opportunities and is not a curse.
