I see that a Consortium is trying to buy HL at 985p, and the Board has rejected that offer. The consortium has until 19 June to increase its offer.

https://www.londonstocke...eaves-lansdown/16483805

The £20k stake we took out in March up a further 4.9% on this news to +33.7%

However, as HL is our main ISA provider I am not too happy about it being bought out by a foreign consortium, if it is in the end bought out, I must say.

Can totally see the attraction - cash generative national leader - and it justifies my recent investment, but that price is an absolute insult.

A worrying development, in terms of another significant UK company potentially getting bought out by overseas investors, and because most of my savings and investments are with HL, and I don't see this leading to improvements for customers, rather the reverse. I feel a bit hypocritical, since I'm a PE enthusiast as an investor, but I hope it doesn't happen, or if it does, that I am proved wrong about the negative impact on clients.

If it becomes foreign owned I can see a LOT of customers leaving.

Presumably many regulatory questions arise.

If I am going to be ripped off, better a Brit than an interloper. Excluding builders of course. And in any case I am not that convinced I am being ripped off yet.

Shareholder structure probably ensures that if it goes out it does so at a seriously elevated price.

Not wild on the idea of my SIPP being operated by a PE backed company.

I am a long time holder of HL shares, the offer would have to see a big increase for me to break even. I am not bothered by a foreign owner running HL after all Vanguard does a good job. I have my SIPP with HL.

Just out of interest ,but if a deal went through and a considerable proportion of investors decided to leave HL, would there be capacity for similar providers to accept the business and what effect could this have on competition re fees and service.Realise this is a guess, but overall I'm happy with HL and change can bring challenges.

Interesting development. We've heard plenty about undervalued UK stocks being prime targets for private takeovers with their beaten up valuations, struggles of the FTSE compared to the US.

Ironic that HL should become one of the first targets!

If investors have no interest in owning UK shares why would they be concerned with who owns the company?
