'Nuff said!

Sold my holding, must remember my number one rule, DON'T BUY INDIVIDUAL SHARES!

I never spend more than 1% of my portfolio on the shares of one company directly. I only buy high div shares also and I have never lost money. I just sit on the losers forever happily in a sea of red lol!

It's reported Mr Train thinks Diageo could reach £40/share .You have to ask has the chap been drinking the products in an attempt to increase sales?
The shares are down 24% this year and like Mr Train I have taken the opportunity to buy more shares but do I think the price will reach £40 any time soon, well NO.
In fact I would be more than happy if they reached £30/share but obviously I lack ambition or the research facilities at his disposal.Perhaps he is using AI .

Hmm... should I have a punt on this in my fun money area?

What I notice is that their products are all expensive compared to what you can buy in the likes of Aldi. Is there really any difference between cheap vodka and expensive Smirnoff? Gin is similar, it's a pretty base product with some flavouring and a stupid bottle. Baileys... nice at Christmas, but no better than cheapo versions. In my experience, paying more for spirits is only worth it with scotch whisky. Guinness is probably the worst stout money can buy but most people don't know that and it's a massive brand.

Current share price doesn't seem cheap based on current PE but better value than before... yet, everything is 20-odd % more expensive than a few years ago so everybody is poorer. Why would they pay over the odds to drown their sorrows? Apart from Argentina, I'm not seeing any attempt to get dynamism going. Maybe a Trump win will give the economy and markets a boost? Although I think the Dominion voting machines prefer continuity decline.

If they haven't already, they could do with having a sub brand for getting their chemicals into cheaper bottles. They do sell something like 200 well known brands... Guess I'll put 500 quid in for the craic at current prices and wait for a future return to glory.

Personally I would buy some more if I had a bit of cash. They might be struggling at the moment but I've been travelling the country ( prolonged holliers) and the on trade (pubs, bars, casual dining) seems to be doing good business, they all have the brands in the optics, including a shedload of gins. But you just try to get Gordons!!. I don't know about supermarkets but our local tesco has at least 50 gins (including own brand) and the same with rum and whisky. Its the same with trendy mixers. What happened, as you say about vodka, its only carbonated water. But its £2 a bottle for a half litre, sadly I missed out on fevertree.

I'll take a pint of guinness thanks unless I can get a Samual Smiths stout on draft, pure nectar in a glass.

I go to Sam Smiths pubs whenever I can. Nice to see somebody else appreciates what they do. I like their draught stout as well, more flavoursome than Guinness, although I sometimes get it mixed half and half with their mild. There are many real ale and craft stouts that are far better than Guinness in my view, whether cask, draught or bottled. Even Ireland has a better one - Beamish - although hard to find over here. But, for most people, stout means Guinness, just as a vodka means smirnoff. Which is why I can imagine the company coming good again.

Compare this to the much smaller Premiere Food (PFD) on P/E of under 14. Think it has net cash of the top of my memory. It is growing slowly though has had it recovery already it could do more.

I'm tempted to say that's a solid buy signal. Though I have time for Smith, he has a track record of selling several shares at the wrong time. I think it's perhaps the case with Diageo.

Diageo is having a good day, up 102p , there is speculation it is considering selling Ciroc vodka, CHEERS.

Update. The new rumour is it's Guinness which is up for sale, if true, I think it would be a big mistake.

I worry at times about Nick Train, is he losing the plot?
In a recent interview that can be seen on Interactive Investor he claims " Americans have discovered Guinness".
Perhaps he is unaware there are 30.7 million Americans of Irish descent living in America 9.2% of the population and they have been supping Guinness for generations.
