Chet Baker (trumpet) and Art Pepper (alto sax) play "Minor Yours" (1956)

Both Baker and Pepper were leading exponents of the West Coast "cool school" of bebop jazz.

Both were junkies who spent significant time in jail for their habits...

Pepper died of a stroke, aged 56, in 1982.
Baker fell out of a window in Amsterdam, aged 58, in 1988...

Session pianist Carl Perkins (the other one!) died aged 29 of a drug overdose in 1958.
Bassist Curtis Counce died of a drug-related heart-attack aged 37 in 1963...

The chord changes are based on the great Tin-Pan Alley song "Love me or Leave me", composed in 1928 by Walter Donaldson...

Then there are great originals with arguably better covers, many of which are Bob Dylan's.
Also a couple of my favourites:
Siouxsie and the Banshees- Dear Prudence
I Put a Spell on You, one of the most covered songs of all time. Bonnie Tyler is my favourite but check out Nina Simone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bryan Ferry, The Animals, Jeff Beck and Them.
