i can see real evidence of this setting in.

We are getting to the stage that one day option traders will play Trump and the rest of the world will go back to looking at the data

The EU budget changes are far more significant than Trump faffing around with Greenland and not putting tariffs on things.

Economic activity will depend on the expectations of the actors in the economy. Erratic behaviour makes setting those expectations problematic and encourages "wait and see".

Make it in America, is a good thing but how long to get a factory, tool it and realign the supply chains?

If every country consumes what it produces, in the end, there is a close relationship between economic growth and population growth.

Is it?

Lets rephrase that... "Moving from low wage production, to high wage production is a good thing".

Not sure that sounds as appealing.

Elsewhere the dialogue has gone something like this:

"Why are people complaining about US tariffs, it's only what the EU has been doing for ages?"

"Yeah, but look at the EU economy....how's that going?"

You are all being driven mad by the media. Again.

Exact same patterns and hysteria as with brexit, Trump Mk I, covid, climate emergency, BLM, Ukraine, Gaza/Israel...

You never learn.

His erratic, ever changing, non-sensical policies are crashing the global markets and he's dicing with tanking the US economy, Truss and Kwarteng did the same with the UK. Trump is a deluded lunatic.

He's now blaming "globalists" whatever the fuck that means.

The problem is that democracy quickly took care of Truss and Kwarteng, it will take a bullet to deal with Trump, which I'm sure will come if he keeps on this trajectory.

One thing that was not widely publicised from Trump's address to Congress a few days ago. The Federal budget is goiing to be brought back into balance by January 2029. The issue of tariff's isn't going away anytime soon. Tariff's will raise sizable amounts of tax revenue. The real war hasn't even started yet. This is just the preliminary skirmishes. Trump needs to find the money to fund his promised tax cuts as well.

Tariffs won't raise a lot of tax because people will just not buy so much stuff, especially when recession and inflation kick in

It's a version of Lafer curve....

It's amusing to see a Guido reader whose mind has been poisoned by the far right rabbit holes he inhabits, blaming the "media"

The U-turn on tariffs shows Trump has no strategy, no allies, and soon a declining economy and stockmarket.

Trump has also threatened today to increase sanctions on Russia in order to get them to the negotiating table

The ruse is so transparent. Putin in a call with Trump “say something a bit critical about Russia, otherwise it is getting to obvious that you work for me”

Have to somehow show Zelensky is important.
Sanctions on Russia - what sanctions and what are they going to do.
It was essentially a US-Russia proxy war that led to a stalemate.
Poor Zelensky drank the US cool-aid and played along like the actor he is.
Just not the type of Political actor which such situations call for.

* Second U-Turn... ;-)

I think what this tells us is that Trump is actining alone on a lot of this stuff. He is neither seeking nor recieving advice BEFORE he leaps in and announces thing, and then has to so through embarrassing climb downs a day or so later.

The only advisors he seems to have are Vance and Muskow. It's a bit like having a devil whisper in both ears... Do it...DO IT!

The tariff wind back is once again just a month. So expect a repeat of this shit-show in four weeks. In the meantime Canada has done the same.

In small ways there's already a reaction to Trump's antics. In time the impact will start to show. The world has permanently changed. People adjust and move on.
