It would be difficult to obtain a better online trader than Hargreaves Lansdown. James Kelly

My husband and I use Barclays. We have never had any reason not to be 100% satisfied with the servcice we have had.

Hi Just in confirmation of the views of others. I have been using Interactive Investor for 5 years and they have only hickuped once
( Lost a 7K ISA) but they put things right quickly and with due apologies. They charge £10 per trade and have the usual research facilities.

I HAVE READ THROUGH THE ABOVE LIST AND AM LEFT THINKING THAT IF PEOPLE ARE FINDING THESE SORT OF PRICES TOO HIGH TO TRADE, THEY SHOULD TAKE UP ANOTHER FORM OF RELAXATION.

I have trading and ISA accounts with both HL and TDW.
The sites are comparable in cost and service for UK stocks, albeit TDW are slightly cheaper but HL are better for Unit Trusts, (better choice and cash back on trail commission).
TDW are much better set up for international trading with a cheaper service and in contrast to HL they will do the admin to facilitate reductions in withholding tax. This HL refuse to do, costing money to the investor especially in ISAs.
So far as their individual trading sites are concerned HL is easy to use and have never made a mistake for me, but international has to be vis the telephone. TDW's site does suffer from the occasional glitch which is resolved by phone but is open for international trading.
You pays your money......

I use Share Centre and find the service excellent and the staff pleasant and very helpful. Trading charges are low.

I have had a couple of problems with T D Waterhouse and there computer system I lost my stockwatch portfolio and when I tried to open a share trading ISA I got a general error warning I then recieved a notice from them saying I had a ISA account but it was an account without a number then it took ages on the 0800 and 0845 numbers don't know how much that cost! to find out the account would not be opened I went to the iii.co.uk site and opened one without a problem.

H-L polite, helpful, good service except sometimes for internet deals on funds that may not be dealt with promptly. Great for unit trusts but expensive for shares. Down side is their literature and web. They are always trying to flog you something that is often junk. Don't fall for it.
Selftrade, I gave up on. Their annual fee for free trades to be carried out in limited time was a racket. They appear to have a wider range of trading than H-L so possibly better for the exotic.

Thank you all for your comments.

struan robertson - if you cannot add anything of use to others, please leave us to chat as that comment was pointless.
