and a hot water bottle! When my teenage son returns from school I shall give him the good news about the national debt and how much longer he will have to work to pay it off. He likes tea and coffee, but should consider them luxuries in future. If he has any sense he will emigrate to somewhere warmer.

The think tank did consider the mittens, but concluded that the public would not accept their interference in controlling iphones and netflix

Get the NHS to prescribe a free dog to every homeowner.

You get more fit by taking it for walks 6 times a day and it
sleeps on top of you at night keeping you warm, also diverting
the bed bugs to itself. In Medieval times inns and doss houses
provided a pig to put in the bed first to allow the bed bugs to
have a feed before the person hopped in (without the pig).

Got some 20mm PIR insulation left over from building works (https://www.insulationhub.co.uk/product/20mm-celotex-tb4020-2-4m-x-1-2m/)

Put some on the outside of our triple glazed skylight in lounge, also blocked up a window behind a curtain.

Only 20mm thick but has equivalent thermal resistance to a 4 brick thick wall.

Retrofitting underfloor insulation is a thing.

Some more info at e.g
https://www.ecologicalbu...suspended-timber-floors
https://www.eco-home-ess...erfloor-insulation.html
and
https://www.gov.uk/gover...er-floors-best-practice

It may not be necessary to take the floor up, if there's enough space to crawl around underneath.
https://www.eco-home-ess.../insulating-floors.html

Some neighbours invested in some (possibly with the support of some grant money, back when the govt was contributing to such things? And also managed without lifting the floorboards)... however they then claimed they could not notice any difference from it! I suspect the approach taken - I think mineral wool with no membrane - suffers from the "wind washing" mentioned in the first link above.

If you have carpet down and the underlay is closed cell (windproof) then adding insulation below the floorboards is going to make negligible difference. It's the gaps around the edges where skirting board meets floorboards that can allow cold air in. Just replacement skirting boards properly seated is a whole lot easier job....

Pre-primed MDF skirting board is the best stuff there is for this.

Drafts aren't everything, heat is lost through convection against cold surfaces also. If that floor is over an uninsulated concrete slab then it's one giant heatsink.

All the utility costs are insane at the moment. On top of that we where charged extra last months for no reason and all of that made us thinking about changing the provider. We are checking now reviews of alabama power here and after talking to their customer service will make our final decision

Umm..... so do you carry a mobile phone about your person? Do you have a router in the house? What's the difference.

Electromagnetic radiation is everywhere from numerous sources, but different wavelengths. You can't avoid it. If it kills you in the end, well something will.

If you go to an outside activity shop, you can by warm gloves that are phone-friendly. (I don't know how Netflix works, but they might also be compatible with that.)

The way to save energy nationally is to have higher costs. Then individuals will take the necessary action.
