The opinion of a pundit

https://theoakbloke.subs...&utm_medium=reader2

Common sense says this is a dividend trap.
Common sense says the market isn't always right.
I may add.

Dividend trap with a 25% yield?

Is that like being sexual harassed by Angelina Jolie?

Peel Hunt’s rundown of financially robust businesses takes the place of its annual list of income stocks...

Quote:
One of the highest yielding is FTSE 250-listed Diversified Energy Co DEC, which is focused on the acquisition, production and retirement of natural gas assets in the United States.

It reported record production and lower unit costs during 2023 but a weaker US gas price has impacted its shares, which fell 44% last year. The stock now trades on 2023 dividend and FCF yields of 25% and 52% respectively.

The bank said: “Like many in the market, 2023 was a tough year for Diversified’s shares. However, the fundamental cash flow generation ability of the asset base is undimmed, offering investors an incredibly attractive entry point into this high-quality company.”

Worth a punt or is this going to be another exercise in catching a falling knife? DEC was on my watchlist at twice the price it trades at now. How much further could it fall, how much more downside risk can there be?

There is a court case in April. They and EQT (I think that's it's name) are being sued for fraud.
EQT the company they bought a large amount of wells from and DEC are being sued on the basis of?. Something's to do with methane and plugging wells. The environmentist are saying that the sale shouldn't have taken place as DEC can't do that much plugging or can't afford to.
Plus there is 4 democrats who also appears to be making allegations.
Lots of uncertainty equals falling share price.

Oak Bloke sub stack?
He's a pundit of some sort, but does put some effort into his research. Has written a lot on DEC
This one is probably the one that relates to court case

When u impose your view on the market, even if u are correct,
Mr. Market is always right so u are liable to lose money.
If u follow Mr. Market, u are liable to make money.
Simples.
If i was a holder of DEC I would be watching for support
at ten pounds, otherwise this could get really nasty.

Comment on Share Price Action

Diversified Energy Company PLC (LSE: DEC, NYSE: DEC) today notes the recent decline in its share price and confirms it is unaware of any operational or company-specific reason for this share price movement. The Company further confirms there has been no material change to its financial and operational condition.

The Company intends to issue its fourth quarter and year-end 2023 Trading Statement during the customary timeframe at the end of this month.

Dipped below twice in the last two days, but the closing price yesterday, and the current sp is just about holding that level. Who knows where it will go from here.

All depends on time scale. Yield this morning was 27%
If the Divi halves to 14% the SP will rocket with the reduction in uncertainty

It is the USA. The regulatory system is proved in the courts. Anyone operating in the US for any period of time will be knee deep in law suits from twats claiming 300 billion in damages because they hit their finger with a hammer and the hammer was hard.

Why do you think McDonalds coffee cups say that they contain hot liquid. McD were sued by a muppet who scalded herself and sued McD because their coffee was too hot
