With regards to CGT taxation, I am so glad I diffused a lot of my gains in the GIA account over the last 6 years. But I still have over £70k remaining. Luckily they are long term compounders that I do not plan to sell for spending etc. So will remain as it is, and potentially can be diffused if/when I sell my BTL which is likely to be at a loss so overall minimal CGT tax to pay.

I'm not seeing any dramatic changes on HL. Possibly anything below 10 years isn't affected. I suppose it could develop - there must be a lot of investors / traders poring over the detail this afternoon.

NB A Gilt buying opportunity would be appreciated given that unsheltered equities are less attractive.

On the whole though l think from most higher rate taxpayers there will be relief, as many had feared a lot worse. As for IHT tax on pensions l think was a given, as it looked out of place with it been placed on ISA's but not with pensions. When you consider the extra tax benefits on offer with pensions.

Real time yield charts for 2yr and 10yr gilts at
https://www.marketwatch....mkgb-02y?countrycode=bx
https://www.marketwatch....mkgb-10y?countrycode=bx
shows it had more impact at the short end. Which makes sense... there's a lot more budgets and potential change to come before a 10 year gilt matures than one just 2 years out.

So far this is small stuff... Truss moved yields by 0.75% I think, but on a timescale of weeks and it may take time for this to play out. Bond markets seem to move like treacle when you're used to watching equities.

IGLT gilts tracker down from 10.3 at 12:00 to 10.2 now, ~1% down. Which is what you'd expect from an ~8 year duration fund (which is what IGLT claims to be) being hit bu a ~0.12% interest-rate surprise.

This is true. Expecting to pick up a bargain before 16.30 is probably a little over optimistic on my part. Back to the garden while it's still light I think!

The ISA and SIP.P allowances are unchanged and will be reduced by inflation for the next few years, not too bad. Including SIPPs in IHT was always likely as Labour's client state, the public sector, on DB's don't have a lump of cash to bequeath. Hopefully, we'll all live long enough for the policy to reverse!

Wonder how this affects law of trusts - as pensions are effectively underwritten by Trust Laws

Overall disappointing - non-doms, private equity, all the tax dodgers let off the hook again. They'll be laughing all the way to their offshore bank

Still, the work of clearing up after the corrupt and useless Conservatives has begun. Think of it as like paying for a deep clean after a Bullingdon club dinner.

Suggestions of a future government undoing "pensions in IHT" had me Reggie Perrin-ing scenes of families screaming at doctors to "keep the old sod alive - at least until the budget".

Knowing that it doesn't come in until 2027 has me checking my brake lines and looking for a food taster...
