Any comments on BIPs, which I have under consideration for Mrs M's pf? Aims: reducing risk in an equity-heavy pf at a time when markets are high; providing income to supplement her pension should I die first. Target is a fairly hands-off pf where both capital and income at least keep pace with inflation over, say, a three year cycle, and where she has to do little by way of management other than periodic rebalancing. pf currently yields about 3% and has grown 8% year to date.

Solid (or more solid) alternatives?

Less appealing after its recent jump. It's all random, isn't it ?

I like it - have held it for probably 10yrs now. Along with MGCI, SMIF and NWBD (1% in each) just reinvesting the dividends each quarter - compounds quite nicely.

(I can't read anything from AF as I have blocked him)

Goes nowhere, does nothing, pays 7%, reliable as you like. One of my ISA favourites and pays a divi that I invest elsewhere in the the portfolio. I have held for as long as I can remember and add a bit when I have a modicum of spare cash.

Maybe I have my head up my arse as well but as part of the ISA package its one of my long term holds and that won't change.

Merry Christmas to everyone, especially to those that do massively better than me.

I have these and

TFIF
SMIF
NCYF
JHYP
VGOV

All as an income stream and some ballast. I have sold occasionally in chicken licken times and bought ISF then reversed when sanity returns

I don't need the income yet

BIPS is a solid portfolio diversifier, probably the best in class in terms of IT corporate bond options.

An alternative is New City Yield Fund [NYCF] which also hold High Yield Bonds (Below investment grade). I hold NYCF: the share price has dropped but the interest paid out to me more than covers this.

One to hold with a small allocation as a peripheral holding.
