The lack of understanding, especially regarding ways to get economic growth, results in debates focused solely on immigration, which many businesses depend on and is equally an issue too.

Don't we have a sovereign wealth fund or a stash of gold we can use to invest in providing finance for growth companies?

No, Gordon Brown sold most of it at a multi-year low price.

Politicians are utterly incapable of deciding which companies are deserving of funding and instead pour money into no hopers like Reaction Engines, HS2 and Carbon Capture when what we really need is to make phones and microchips.

The reason to vote Tory is to have a vaguely sane set of economic policies.

Anyone who voted Labour or Reform, or didn't, voted for what we've got now (being that Reform split the conservative vote, and just made it easier for Labour).

So it's hard to feel much sympathy. Any time we vote Labour in, it's probably down to conservative voters being thick and not turning out.

We could have had....... Norway actually bothered, and it's done them OK!

"Although revenue from oil and gas production is transferred to the fund, these deposits account for less than half the value of the fund. Most of it has been earned by investing in equities, fixed income, real estate and renewable energy infrastructure."

Not as much gold as we'd like, but apparently there is about £3bn worth (and rising) of seized BTC burning a hole in Reeves' pocket.

I agree with this in large part, but in fairness, the last Conservative government made it hard for previously conservative voters to support them, by drifting leftwards in many respects. A lot of people who are naturally centre right were saying, before the election, that there was little to choose between de-Corbynised Labour and Sunak's Tories, why not give the other lot a go? It would be hard to make that argument now, I think, and many of them are probably wishing they had held their noses and voted Conservative as normal.

Could you clarify? Is it that you are very upset that Clarkson's tax wheeze to avoid IHT won't work as well as he had hoped, or are you alarmed at the possibility of being run down by a tractor in Parliament Square?

A spell in a darkened room with a cup of cocoa might settle you down. When you feel better, you might turn your thoughts to suggesting alternative ways to get the potholes filled and the UK semi-functional again.

If Clarkson thinks it is bad policy, it is good policy

Clarkson told The Times in 2021 that he was buying a farm to avoid inheritance tax and now he is leading a protest against the introduction of inheritance tax on farms.

He’s a total charlatan. He is the reason the policy has had to change. Rich people buying land as a form of tax planning. If he and others like Dyson hadn’t abused the system it wouldn’t have to change. I

No, Gordon Brown signalled his intention in advance, thereby giving all the people who
bought our gold time to force its price down on the international markets.
