I've just carried out my weekly totals and found that my profit margins have doubled from about 9% back in October of last year to over 18%, Is now the time to take profits of what ever amount or on a specific holding?

I have no doubt that this rise is due to Donald, will it go on after his inauguration? or fall with his actions whilst President?
Decisions, decisions!

No. I am strongly in the camp that believes this year will be another good year. Ok it has so far proven to be volatile, and will probably remain so, but the long shot is the economy is doing just fine. There won't be a recession in 2025. I would only be selling *IF* you need the money in the short term. Stocks will beat cash in 25.

ditto
"The Donald" will do deals.
The Rhetoric serves to keep him in the limelight and keep supporters on board, in the same way a football team airs the notion that it has complete faith in its manager and has no intention to change anything.

Depends on the holdings. Have you identified other opportunities in which to deploy the money?

Yes, one of my portfolios which is entirely IT's have made in the main profits, but as that is not counting the dividends received are doing really well and give a constant stream of money to re-invest in the purchase of either new IT's or starting a new IT holding.

With regard to my other portfolios, I will add to US existing holdings, and to also increase my Vanguard all world holdings.

Surely making profits ie portfolio growth is part of every investors investment policy and to be expected
It should be regarded as just another aspect of normal portfolio behaviour
If in accumulation phase and profits exceed your investment parameters /guidelines for that particular asset -investor then rebalances
If in withdrawal phase you make your withdrawals from the profitable asset
At all times the Investors main aim should be to maintain their desired Asset Allocation
The chosen asset Allocation is the investors touchstone and is the investors guide to dealing with the profit (and loss) of his portfolio-takes away the need for guesswork/knee jerk actions by the investor

And just to add - i think it’s going to be all about the US again, so another positive for a cheap global index. I’m not sure I would be buying individual stocks due to volatility so an index will dampen that out. I’m sure the tables will turn again at some point but economic data at the moment supports more of the last couple of years trends. I think the UK might stall however. The only real danger if I understand correctly is yields - they will probably rise to above 5 hence more equity volatility but each time yields fall it further supports equity - especially in this strong environment. If your portfolio worked last year, it will probably work this year.

Both my SIPP and ISA are all-in equities, not even enough cash sitting in there to buy one share in either VUSA or VEVE. I sold all my PHNX shares around 10 days ago and put that into VEVE too.

I also believe it will be another decent year, probably choppy, but already 4.21% up.

The above is around half my assets, the rest is in a ex-rental house currently for sale. If those proceeds fell into my lap today I would not be putting them in equities. Ok, perhaps a little bit, but not all.

The only possible edge, I think, would be to get a consensus view on here, and do the opposite.

It shouldn't really be possible to know – but by surveying the worst, lowest-information, most reactive and confused investors in the market, it *may* be possible to distill what the dumb money is doing, and bet against that on purely behavioural grounds.

Really, the best advice is to have a sensible asset allocation, and rebalance as often as you need to. It's good enough for the largest institutional investors, and ensures you are profiting from price moves, both ways.

With another predictable “better than expected” earnings season just starting and the Trump Pump we will blast through ATH’s in the coming weeks. Ive decided I then might start taking some profits although not too many unless yields go above 5%
