Possibly good news for us as coffee futures are at a very high price.
Interesting to see how soon other exporters to the US will seek to protect themselves by looking to sell to other markets.

Bizarre. Neither product grown in the USA so what purpose is the tariff... oh yes, tax revenue....

I think we will see the law of unintended consequences at work here.

Asia/China will just shift focus onto the European market, and if Trump tariffs Euro goods then Europe will focus on Asia.

The USA will be bypassed and ignored and Trmup can fold his arms and huff and puff while USA inflation takes a step hike North.

Is he really as bad at economics as Liz Truss? Does he have no beter adviders.

By coincidence I bought a bunch of bananas today for £1.09 in Sainsbo. Even if it doubled I really would not care. Its cheap as chips...

It occurs to me that I can't think of a single 'must have' product that is manufactured in the USA. Maybe F-35's....

I believe they are net exporters of fossil fuels, and yes, a lot of defence / aerospace stuff. On a personal level, a high proportion of my personal care products, and health supplements are made in the US, and I like Californian wines, but otherwise pretty much everything seems to be made in China these days, even if the company is American. It would be good to see some manufacturing being brought back from overseas as a result of Trump's tariffs (although I am generally against trade protectionism).

On the coffee, presumably there will be increased demand from the US for non-Colombian beans, so from our perspective, Colombian coffee might get cheaper? Not sure though, generally it is getting more expensive, but like you with the bananas, I would pretty much pay any price for my cup of joe ;).

Useful thread.

Hasn't backed down on the threat of 50% tariffs on US imports though.
