And I have “promoted” Buffett’s widow strategy. Whilst I’m not 90:10 today, health permitting we may get there one day.

Rob Berger says it far better than I ever could. For anyone with 20 minutes to spare, this is my all-time favourite investing video:

How many thousands of Americans now hold his portfolio as a result though ? Retail US investors aren't particularly well diversified. Holdings of international equities within portfolio's is around the 8% level. The concentration risk within the S&P 500 is highly elevated. If A1 fails to deliver then some major companies are going to fall rapdly in tandem.

Edit. The inherent danger in taking something written in 2013 as Gospel.

Thanks Thrugelmir

I'm glad to expand on my earlier post especially as I am wrapping up the thread

What I'm buying into with the Buffett widow idea are some concepts as follows:

- Passive
- Low cost
- Rebalance
- Simple to understand
- Less likely to be shaken out
- Free up time for hobbies
- Easier to pass on to Mrs Trout (10 years younger than me)

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go all in on two funds but from where I am (far too many holdings as you can see from my portfolio) it's good to have something aspirational to aim for

I've sold 12 investments in 2024 in their entirety so the clean up is underway

But I'm a long way from 90% equities (currently 46%) - it's a stretch target if you like

For anyone interested, here's my equities split by region at 09/24 compared with 12/23

Regions

I can't ever see me being 90% S&P 500, far from it. It's the broad concept I like for the reasons above.

Glad to clarify

Cheers

Harry
