Do it yourself, IFA's are not there for your benefit. I look after a family portfolio of nearly £700k now and it's not that difficult. The so called professionals will only be interested in fee income and have no more (probably less) idea of what to invest in than many who visit these forums. Oh and I don't think that what I do would warrant a 1% charge ie £7k a year.

My experience with wealth managers is limited but I see no need for them in terms of ongoing activities ( rather than specific one offs like estate planning which should be done elsewhere). The one I have to use ( family trust) knows no more than I do it seems and we have had to fend off attempts to push investments on to us where they were trying to offload new offerings, no doubt to their own advantage.
Proper wealth managers, not the likes of BD or WHI, will only be interested if you have millions. A few hundred k is small beer in this context.
If you add up all our ISAs, pensions etc I guess I manage north of 1.5M and it's been fine over 20 years.
