Some posters set store by differentiating retail and institutional money. In general, I believe that is guesswork; after all, there is no way of knowing the status of your counterparty when dealing stocks. But the exception would be a market like this, where the journey of every coin is recorded.

I wonder if bitcoin is now on rinse/repeat mode for mug retail investors.

Oooft
Looking grim today
Trump pump dump

Trump & Musk know the US is bust.
If they're not going to reem the coiners for the national coffers
They'll reem them for they're own benefit.
The latter most likely

Yes. Not good that all the gains from Trump's announcement have been swallowed up in a day.

Enjoy the volatility. It's a buying opportunity...

Bitcoin bull markets typically have five or six 30% drawdowns. We're not even there yet...

My notional gross annual income has flitted between £120k and £125k. I sleep very easily...

I am a newbie considering buying abit of Bitcoin to start my journey
I am hoping to get some guidance from experienced members

What are the options in UK?
Google gave me Coinbase and I managed to create an account and pass the quiz
(& has a cooling period of 24 hours before you can invest)

Is Coin base reliable and are there any other suggested options?

While sympathetic, it's impossible to give such advice. You must do your own research.

For example, are your bitcoins held in cold storage? With multi-factor authentication ?

My BTC has been held for over 6 years by one of those on that list with no problems...

I tried buying through Coinbase , which showed my debit card limit as zero
I could not change it, and got talking on chat to a helpdesk chap; who also could not do it
Then he gave me blah link which said the limit will change based on your spending habits etc
I pointed out to him without a limit increase, I would not be able to use the account and have to close it down
https://help.coinbase.co...my-limits-change?ref=es
He then said he will escalate it and they will revert after 3 days

I would like to believe it is just starting troubles

Meanwhile I found a charge of 3.8% for a 100 /1000 /10000 pound purchase, which I thought steep
Add on the sales charges and you will need it to grow beyond say 6% to get anything out of it
====
ANyway my journey is yet to begin;

Any worldy advice would be welcome

All too complex and personal for anyone here to comment, imho.

Good Luck.

I wonder if the problem is with your bank rather than Coinbase? If you are trying to use a debit card issued by a major high street bank, it may be that they have prevented you from depositing funds. I use Blockchain.com, and initially I was able to add funds, but as Crypto became more popular, my bank subsequently prevented me from adding money to my account. I had an account with Bit Panda for a period, which worked fine, but I have not tried to add funds recently.

If all else fails, you might want to look into setting up an account with Revolut. I understand that it's possible to hold Crypto along with a range of currencies. It's also possible (or was, last time I checked) to purchase BTC with a PayPal account, although the issue with both of these options is that, AFAIK, it isn't possible to store your Crypto in a cold wallet. If you are only investing a relatively small amount, that might not be a concern for now, but obviously you need to research all this and think it through for yourself.
