In addition to the higher insurance, now an added inconvenience: Several ferry companies have banned the transport of EV's, probably due to their escalating insurance cost for handling EV's.

I'm sure i read either earlier this year or late last year that a multi-storey car park in New York collapsed due to the weight of all the EV's parked on it, apparently it was constructed in the 1960's.

Jeremy Clarkson is warming to EVs because most can't tow a caravan due to the braking system unable to cope with the extra weight.

PS: Meadowhall upper story car park currently closed due to "strengthening"; however locals know it actually partially collapsed. Rumour has it Meadowhall is constructed from the notorious aero concrete.

I have just spent 20 minutes doing my own research, I'm sort of looking to replace my old car and I'm from a tech background so battery cars are on my radar. Went to go compare and the results were as expected -

Hyundai Kona 2018 1.0l petrol 30k miles - value £12995
Quoted £265 and 15 quotes under £300

Hyundai Kona 2018 64kwh 35k miles - value £17895
Quoted £326 and 15 quotes under £400

About the quotes
£250 voluntary excess
8k miles per year
protected ncd
20 plus years ncd
late 50's male driver

Hope this belays any fearmongering, a little dose of reality is needed at times ; )

Ah, forgot to mention but all quotes were for fully comprehensive insurance......

edit - I just thought I'd get a quote for a petrol Kona of similar value to the electric one and the quotes came out as around £285 for a 2022 car valued at £18,500 with 29000 miles on the clock.

So....£40 cheaper to insure the petrol model.....Or shock horror, electric is £40 more than an ICE!!!!!

One thing that does concern me about modern cars let alone electric cars is the complexity and cost of repair. I still have my 198500 mile ford focus bought in 2001 and it is reasonable to repair. I dread having to buy a new car really.

If anyone is interested this video details the dangers, complexities and costs of fixing electric/hybrid vehicles. It's a bit long and maybe a bit nerdy for some people but gives a good insight to EV ownership.
