I've had a Nationwide FlexAccount for 24 years without any problems. I link it to their e-savings account and transfer funds to the FlexAccount as needed.

I have a Lloyds Vantage Classic Account. Pays 4% on balances between £5000-7000. Internet banking is good. You can upgrade to get Annual Travel insurance and AA Roadside cover if you wish. I don't bother, just want the interest. As good as an ISA.

I think Smile Internet bank is brilliant ...... much better than Baclays and Santander (a joke). Ethical - part of the Co-op lots of options. If you need to ring up they are so friendly and were right on the ball when someone took money out on my credit card - which I have with them too! Very good easy website.

I have banked with The Yorkshire Penny Bank, Midland Bank, Barclay's Bank, and First Direct Bank. for 80+ years. First Direct is perfect, and available 24/7/365, and have satisfied my needs for the last 20 years. I have transferred money from my account to my children's accounts in seconds on the net, have had all my questions answered within minutes on the phone without waiting etc, etc
The only time I want fairly large amounts of cash I have to travel a few miles to their associated H.S.B.C bank, smaller amountsI obtain from supermarket cash back , or local 'hole in the wall'

I have been a customer of the Co-operative Bank since my first current account number comprised just two letters and four digits (ie some 40 years ago). I now run both current and savings accounts with Co-op credit and debit cards. I have never had any complaints. When I once went inadvertently overdrawn, they phoned, asked if I was aware, and quickly sorted me out without any penalty charge. The internet site works well, and on the phone any queries are dealt with quickly and efficiently, usually by the person I first speak to.
Interest rates on savings are nothing to write home about, (whose are?), but if you become a Co-op member, the six-monthly share out of the organisations profits is based on several factors which include your usage of banking and financial services.

The 5-7K band is being withdrawn on 27 June according to http://www.easier.com/86...ge-current-account.html
