I agree that, in that respect, comfort can be drawn but the other side of the coin wherever a family has a very large interest and influence in a trust then I am not sure how I can ensure their interests align with mine.

Then it's back to that old chestnut, do your own research. I'd suggest reading the Company accounts and other communications for say at least 5 years for starters. Companies have to promote themselves to retain and attract new shareholders. Growing in size is of mutual benefit to everyone.

Now with the benefit of hindsight. Do you expect the same outperformance over the next 10 years?

Are Rothschild investing for generations to come (notice the plural) - maybe more generations then you and your extended might be around - could it be that they have no need for short term or long term, but only generational success?

If so, then expectations are surely different between them and most of us.

All the large global ITs have done better over the last decade (and shorter periods). They have greater transparency, much less complexity, and much lower fees. Good luck to those who are trading it, but as a long term investment it has lost its way.

I think this is where the fees either come into it or don't depending on your point of view.

Nobody knows what performance will be over the next ten years but fees that you know about are just maths and paying almost 6% in fees come rain or shine seems a significant headwind to overcome whatever happens.

I tend to think there's a bull and bear case for most things.

Which one to listen to 🤔

But your favourite, SMT, hasn't? Anyone putting up a global equity fund against RCP has missed the point. A 100% equity fund has done better in a huge bull market? What about the next ten years?

SF100 summed it up nicely above. I think people just need to get over this - if you like RCP, great, if you don't, great. We all make our choices.

LOOKING AT THOSE Peak SP drawdowns to now -
RCP has fallen more than some of the other funds that are 100% private equity, markets are quite funny

I expect several low cost global equity index funds /Etfs to beat RIT over the next 10 years - for one key reason they are cheap and buying the market they will rise with it . ` RIT is picking using an experienced team but still...... This is why I have been gradually moving from Stock selection and individual Investments to index funds/EtFS - mind you I am 73 so perhaps the time is correct for such a shift but I have also used Low cost global equity index funds for my 5 year old grand daughter and over next 70 years I feel she'll do OK!
